Napoleon's first children's CD nominated for a WMCA

After recently having two songs selected for a major label compilation CD to be distributed North America and Europe, Napoleon’s first children’s CD Mocikan has been nominated in the Best Children’s Recording category at the Western Canadian Music Awards to be held in Edmonton on October 18th 2008.

More than just a kid’s CD, Mocikan is a collection of stories, lessons, field recordings and sing-along tunes for anyone wishing to learn Cree, one of the first languages of commerce in Canada. It has already been hailed as a possible model for Aboriginal language revitalization in North America.

Utilizing family, community members and guest musicians, Napoleon produced, wrote and performed on most of the album tracks over a five-day studio session resulting in a live community feel. Indeed Mocikan is a warm and inclusive, toe tapping cultural journey that can be enjoyed by all walks of life. Part of the proceeds from CD sales goes toward Cree language development. Mocikan is available at www.cdbaby.com.
