Conquerer of music nominations to tour BC
While he has yet to win a musical award, singer-songwriter Art Napoleon certainly has the most nominations in all of Canada. He was nominated in several categories at the Vancouver Island Music Awards, Western Canadian Music Awards, Aboriginal People’s Choice Music Awards, Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards, Canadian Folk Music Awards, and the Victoria “M” Awards, all for his bilingual roots album Miyoskamin. The Americana-Roots flavored CD was listed as one of the top played albums on the CBC Galaxie Folk/Roots channel in 2006 and his songs Good Red Road and Mystics have hit number one on Canada’s Aboriginal Radio Top 30. The album, which has received wonderful reviews in a number of notable Canadian publications, has recently been picked up for national retail distribution through Warner Canada and…Art has once again been nominated for an award…Best Folk Recording at the Native American Music Awards to be held in New York State on October 6th, 2007.
Art and his band will be swinging through Interior BC with dates at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Kitimat on November 17th, Prince George Art Space on Nov. 18th and the Chuck Mobley Theatre in Quesnel on Nov. 19th.
"Art brings a hopeful observer’s and teacher’s eye to all he sees around him…he straddles both worlds and his music showcases it…in the end, the world is a better place for having Art Napoleon’s music a part of it."
— Les Siemieniuk, Penguin Eggs Magazine
"Napoleon sings of hunters, trappers and life’s journey…when he breaks into a full-blooded chant, the goosebumps rise as fast as the spirits."
— Jeff Bateman, Western Living Magazine
