The Môcikan (moo-chi-gun) CD is now available!!
Môcikan - 'Songs for Learning Cree' is a fun collection of studio and field recordings to support the learning of the Nihiyaw (Cree) language 'Y' dialect, spoken throughout Western Canada and Northern Montana. Included in this diverse audio collage are language lessons, stories, community field recordings and sing-along songs for the young at heart performed by Art Napoleon and his friends and family. Listening to and repeating these songs and words will help listeners with their vocabulary and pronunciation of the Cree language. Those not wishing to learn Cree will still find themselves drawn into the magic that is Môcikan (moo-chi-gun) - Having fun or celebrating. This CD was a collaboration between Art Napoleon and the Victoria-based Nihiyaw (Cree) Language and Culture Society. Proceeds from the Society's CD sales will go back into the Society for supporting language and cultural preservation and revitalization initiatives. If you would like a copy or two mailed to you, follow the link below to CDBaby.

Children's Show
Art Napoleon’s interactive cross-cultural show features original music, humor, storytelling and First Nations teachings. An experienced showman, and traditional educator with a charming wit, Art shatters myths and stereotypes about Aboriginal people in a manner that is highly educational, entertaining, respectful and energetic. With Art on acoustic guitar, hand-drum, harmonicas and lead vocals, he is joined by multi-instrumentalist Marty Jones on mandolin, bass, cello and harmony vocals. Together they produce unique Cree-style rock, country, Cajun, and blues, creating the sound of a full band while pulling out the hidden musical talents of young participants. With performances in schools and children’s festivals throughout BC and a newly released children’s album, this show is guaranteed to get your toes tapping!

School performance in Victoria, BC |
Art performed in over 80 schools throughout BC and numerous children’s festivals over the past three years including Vancouver, Whistler, Calgary, Surrey, Victoria and Penticton.
With the combination of music, playful banter, participatory interaction and celebration of cultures, the show instills a sense of pride, empowerment and encouragement to youth to be the best they can be, even if it’s just learning the basics of rhythm and jamming etiquette. It is certain that participants will develop an appreciation for musical fusion and a variety of musical traditions from around the world. They will also learn about basic history, geography and “life-way” teachings of the Cree people of Canada.
